and before we get started I just want to make sure that you realize this is the first time we've ever done a webinar this way so please be patient with us and know that we may make mistakes here or dare I'm so here all right and on our agenda tonight we're going to do volunteers we have some people from 80s architect and our consultant who are going to talk about prop 51 our foundation president is here to talk about Foundation news our CFO is going to update us on the latest state budget and what it means first Charter School of Morgan Hill and then I'm going to talk about where we are right now and where we're going and we will be taking some questions at the end and and some in between as well if you have any question there is a question-and-answer spot I believe in your webinar and if you could just type any questions or comments you have there have somebody that will be watching that answering those questions with us I am going to just stop the sheriff or just a minute here and make sure and so I am going to start now with there we go you are wonderful csmh community community member welcome together to volunteer to support our students and staff thank you for helping in the classroom come to life interviews chaperoning dances and recess support coffee pressing materials volunteering to providing lunch support donating supplies putting together beautiful baskets for our Gala raising money so we can provide students with they need to self for cooking our team being a caring a dog as a project Cornerstone reader spirit wear to keep us United making the book fair a reality decorating your truck and our garden members taking care of our animals helping procure donations driving on field trip speaking up for our students partnering with us taking care of us to see SMH staff community child with distance learning & Beyond this time of disciplining has emphasized Mortenson Family involvement and teamwork we are so grateful for all we are glad to have you on our team part of the csmh community thank you right way to celebrate our volunteers and the say thank you and we wish we were able to do it in person but we try to find a way that we can express our gratitude to you so I am going to turn over to our first panelist very dr. Barry Schimmel very have got years of experience and as a teacher as a principal as an assistant superintendent he has built multiple schools remodel multiple schools and we stopped when we receive the prophecy one money come in and help us and buried the perfect catch that was the area well and it's been a great person to have on board and couldn't be more thankful to have him be alongside us as we got you this process so Berry hello are charter schools and barking upon a journey to improve and update the physical space of the school to match the quality of the educational program being offered replace 15 outdated and time-worn portable with facilities to support the ideal learning environment my name is Barry Schimmel and I will be guiding the effort can remain focused on student needs and learning this is especially important in our current environment earlier this year we initiated a selection process that invited seven architectural firm learn about our project a committee of stakeholders including teachers staff community and parents with Administration interviewed three professionally qualified various sizes after reading an input the committee recommended to the Board of Education ATS Architects to lead the design and state approval process in the three months even with shelter-in-place your team has accomplished all the required activities through virtual online meetings you will now hear about our said that birds to engage stakeholders and encourage your input as the design develops for Michelle and Anna of Ada's will share information about the Zayn activities and next steps let's go thank you sir have a difficulty getting our screen to share or presentation portion so we're trying to do all troubleshooting beside behind the scenes here by Donna okay okay so we are set yeah we are so happy to be share with you on today and as we go through this if you have any questions please feel free to put them in the Q&A child and we will try to address them at the end or get back to you as soon as we possibly can so first I just want to quickly in Urdu the Adidas team from I Michelle Nestle the principal in charge also John diffenderfer is the design principle Tricia tanamera is the project manager and Anna Harrison is our educational educational planner excuse me who here with me today to share some really exciting stuff that we've been working on some of you may recognize a few of us we've been involved in a few projects on with the Charter School Morgan Hill in the past most recently some design work to identify and creative. for the future a classroom or as we all affectionately call it the barn project the Charter School Morgan Hill is really just such a great community that we are thrilled to be embarking on this next phase with all of you currently the spite house has a number of portable buildings that are really kind of at their end of useful life until this prophecy one project that we just kicked off in April is first replacing those aging facilities we are currently in the programming Phase 2 right at the beginning and we're very deep into stakeholder engagement and working in Virtual Workshop we plan to wrap up programming the summer with schematic design in the fall and then construction documents for submittal to the state architect's office for approval in the early spring obviously we really intend to maintain the sketch so like I said we've been implementing a very all-inclusive process to ensure that the design of the school ultimately reflects the unique mission and vision that is the charter school of Morgan Hill and so to dive deeper in to the stakeholder engagement process I'm going to now turn it over to Anna to walk you through it thank you for sell hello everyone I've been described for you the stakeholder engagement process so far can a TENS with a couple of ways that you all can get involved just for one moment let's talk about why we do stakeholder engagement and in a nutshell it's to find out what's important to you Charter School of Morgan Hill Community five faces of Stamford the Stanford d-school model are empathy Define ideate prototype and chest in face-to-face empathy in years large face-to-face works after how we would just typically facilitate your stakeholder engagement here are a few more images this one of the Newark Unified School District a 60-person face-to-face visit workshop and the outcome from workshops guiding principles of learning environment with your Ada's planning and design team can then translate into the physical design of your chances and then in mid-march everything changed like knew we had to quickly adapt to a new normal we all began to convert Our Lives to work-from-home distance learning and Zoom meeting at that point asked us if we thought we could do stakeholder engagement virtually and our insert initially was a resounding yes I have a teaching background I've taught online instructor at West Valley College and I thought we got this and then the next morning I realized what a difficult challenge it really was going to be we got together with the charter school of Morgan Hill leadership team page and Susan are Charter School culture is amazing and resilient together we rallied the virtual stakeholder engagement strategy became these four modules the first module is discovering the attributes of the ideal learning experience next we went through and ideation and prototyping of learning experiences we just wrapped up module 3 designing ideal learning environment and this month we are going to be launching model for conducting site assessment so this is how the four modules work together I just wanted to focus on discovering from you the ideal learning experience for your campus we focus on learning experience to establish a shared vision for the campus redesign guys decision-making on everything from the parking and drop-off experience to how to handle classroom storage made a mindful 3 we began to translate the ideal learning experience into a fit learning environment and then for the sake of our participants will assess the physical learning environment of the current campus today and the ultimate design, bridge the gap existing campus today and your ideal campus environment of Tomorrow constraints all within the budget and within the schedule we have been successfully completed with all the charter school of Morgan Hill teachers and staff the forest module will launch this week so how do we do it well we'll use a suite of virtual schools we use video presentations documents and resources house on Google Drive and we do interactive team activities using the virtual whiteboard mural and this has been some of the really fun aspects of our virtual conversion to Virtual We Begin by introducing the teachers and staff to mural and asking them to allow de getting to know mural with a shared with us their answers to the question if you could change one thing about the charter school of Morgan Hill Campus what would it be and as you can imagine very very popular answers get rid of the old portable improved the parking improve the bathroom so we got all of that information really early on module 1 also included vision and here you see all the teams individual vision boards in mural and here's a close-up of one I really love this idea of learning as a team over to the left of the mirror you'll see some Post-it notes and these for the individual attributes of The Learning Experience they were then grouped into clusters and given category name and then the team's got to create their vision board adding more. Carolyn images to express to us what the ideal learning experience at Charter School of Morgan Hill this preliminary list of attributes has emerged from the module 1 and 2 they will continue to be refined and we have plans to get your feedback as a community and your input as we move through the rest of the stakeholder engagement please consider this list address answers to module 3 designing ideal learning environment murals as you can see these were done by grade level teams here's a close-up of the grade 2 learning environment design and I have to give big kudos to Paige and Susan because they actually facilitated all of these grade level module module 3 we did an early train the train with the admin staff and they work individually with all of these stakeholder teams and we have amazing data from this exercise things began with reviewing the attributes of the ideal learning experience and then they use primordial spaces Jane pieces that represent different types of physical spaces so these faces are these game pieces represent campfires mountaintops watering holes sand pits and life and we do have a great video presentation that you are welcome to watch so you can do your own memorial spaces learning environment how can you get involved and this is my clothes we invite you to watch the video presentation you will be invited to participate in Facebook survey is if you want to you can even engage in the team activities also of course we want you to review all of the stakeholder engagement outcomes I am not able to see the questions and answer but I will check in with me shell and Susan do we have any questions at this point I haven't seen any come up for us yet so I think we can just probably continue and we can Circle back into showing up in the Q&A is my great honor to introduce to you your Charter School of Morgan Hill Foundation president Rhett Hall wow thank you Anna great pleasure to thank you for having me so welcome everyone I appreciate everyone seeing their life or if you pick this up later thanks for checking in and and getting in tune with the state of the school this year so first and foremost I thought that that video at the beginning was with outstanding teacher sharing know what they appreciate about the Community Charter School community and if I had been able to have my spot on there I would have you know I would have said thank you for your financial support I didn't make the cut I didn't get I didn't even get invited and so I'm here now but thank you for attending as an aside my nusret this is my 15th year I'm here at Charter School as a parent volunteer now the foundation board president so you know what that means that means more important is graduating from high school so I see you like my third just graduated from Bellaire and so I have three out of high school and Andre sit on his way so you know what as we've all heard you're far too many times. No work were we're just living for living and unprecedented time and you're no one can say with absolute certainty you know what the future holds but you know isn't that always the case you never know what tomorrow brings and we never know you know with certainty what our future looks like but I think it's important to embrace positive that way certainly this community that we're all involved in is a positive in our lives and I think we all benefit from it in having our children at the school but the relationship with parents like overall experience and with all the exciting things happening in Charter there going to be a lot of changes going on and I welcome you know the next the next dimension of Charter School Morgan Hill so you know from day one with the shelter-in-place ordinance the foundation board I think it's locked I don't know what it is but the foundation board has remained extremely positive about the future Charter School we all know that we all know that there's we've gone through changes in our lives and you know some of those change I've been good for me personally I enjoy the time because I get to see them get online and getting fired it's been wonderful than one experience for me to be around my family more I want to personally thank you for your continued support of Charter School Morgan Hill and the csmh foundation parents and grandparents and sharing and giving extended family members are making a difference between everyday and from the bottom of my heart I want to see and hopefully we all continue that support I believe will get through this and I believe will be better will be better for it and I'm not only our family spots to see SMS our great nation so I'm with carry on and let's keep doing all we can to support Charter School Morgan Hill so as you have seen or you know the mission or the csmh foundation we're going to need all resource development to support the charter school of Morgan Hill and you know we have unwavering commitment to continue to do that some of the lights for 2019-20 close to 200,000 grams to see SMH from the from the foundation of the gala event make a little over 24,000 teachers wish list this year was a great way to know that everyone stepped up and the teacher teachers all had ideas of what they want in their classroom change password list and you know it was it was presented to you the the supporters and and generous donors and everyone stepped up and made it half so awesome. also the employer matching donations that's where I think I think we are at an all-time high over 47,000 with employer match just so you know we live in how much they the heart of the heart of technological Evolution and right here in our backyard and Grace Corporation. are larger tired and sick so she just matches going appreciate that and then the annual giving program that is our God is our Lifeline if you and that's you stepping out each and every month or annually and continuing to support our needs a charter so just the annual program close to 350,000 this year the classified donation was close to 35000 the gala benefit auction for 200,000 huge piece oven and she drives that each and every year for us so thank you Diana and of course I just mentioned to make it happen she shares with wishlist actual number on the employer match so here's the grants to see a summation how they're broken out so make it happen the class supplies close to $39,000 a year. change this year and we don't know what are you learning environment is going to look like for this year and and the coming years to be frank so of course we should mini field trips a service for a Christian Nation as for our wonderful teachers and staff and everything that they give the charter but you know they are they are doing extraordinary things miss y'all and these unprecedented times right there they're learning to be teachers from home and it's been it's been remarkable to see it all unfold so here's the impact of your mate happened donations of mrs. Miss Sorensen's class you want to be our goggles and and and so I actually was talking to Diane about this but one of the first things they did was they took a tour of Anne Frank's house so imagine that learning environment where everyone in the classroom has on these goggles you know they just read and Frank's book and now they get to 50 song goes on and go see exactly where she live you like in the basement hiding and M thing so that's that's really cool. Next line or the next picture there is either 2nd graders for doing projects the next slide here is obviously teachers have a lot of reading material on their list so a lot of books that were added in the ice creams this year and then also the I don't know how I got to be the first one to talk about this but the California distinguished School honor so we're so proud of that is a foundation Community were proud of it all the hard work of the staff and teachers and students in particular that have allowed us to allow us to have that the foundation support ice cream social for the entire student body we also they all took pictures and so every student was able to take a picture in front of the banner Foundation also supported a bocce ball night out for teachers and staff and so it looks like they had a good time at all I thought you would be here but I don't know I don't know if that's a place so in the field trips this is a field trip to Vasona that Speedy Turtle I don't really know the turtle's name but I went to went to Levi's Stadium they all got to actually put on pads and take turns talking Jimmy Garoppolo pretty tired. Next flight is that's the fun center and that's I believe are 7th graders going to I mean then finally hears this is besana Park as well it might be second graders and then the 6th grade science trip science camp so I'll look at it looks on those boys faces they're like yes play how they look like we're going to have a good time one of the programs that we're proud of than and we continue to support is the scholarship program and so we just completed our forts csmh students after graduating from high school and so this year there were nine applications and five scholarships were given I will have you know that all five of those Starship smoke too young lady so there were actually boys that submitted her application but everyone knows that girls are better than boys if you need if you need scientific data to prove that you just need to come to my house and there's five boys here in my beautiful wife and she's definitely the smartest one so stay on scholarship program continue music. The things that we look for and of course academic Excellence extracurricular activities volunteer employment form of leadership president vice president after football team or something like that but it's a wonderful program that says that we are to continue to support 20 20 20 and 20 21 classroom Supply Drive we'd have it sent notice out yet so stay tuned how that's going to unfold I think there needs to be a few wrinkles workout far as I don't know I shouldn't even speak on it I just know that the supply Drive is coming on so keep an eye out for that and we'll get that check in the next month also we are imagine you were supposed to be are aware he know the gallivant which is to be scheduled for October in that time frame so we postponed the gala dentist is going to be at Cinnabar Hills again this year and we're looking at fabric Roaring Twenties. This is the 20th year and we just finished our annual report go ahead and check it out csmh foundation.org I think we do it every year but this year was call me in PDF format jump on our foundation website and check that out and then finally just I want to have the tractors list on here that really quickly as I already told you I'm old Bart's kids are no longer at Charter Paul still have a few kids to Charter Marietta jumpers earlier Liz Liz daughter just graduated from Charter this year so she's going on the high school but she won't have a couple grand kids Brian's just say he's a famous famous volunteer in the Morgan Hill area has kids graduated from chartres 12 Funyuns in bringing this up is that we would love involve involvement from the parents and if you have any interest if you want to visit a meeting if you want to come in as a guest and we'd love to have you so I am going to turn this over to Mary and Mary Ranch are world-renowned CFO you can take it away thank you very much I appreciate that and thank you for that wonderful overview of the foundation and thank you to everyone parents and families and you'll see part of our our funding and your donations help us be able to provide a lot of the wonderful things that we might not otherwise be able to do it with normal budget opportunity to share with you a new year and budgeting many of you have heard me see you for some time now and usually it's a pretty good conversation and we're pretty excited to go look into the new year carrier and we all know that in our lives economically Housewives I hope everyone out there stay healthy wearing mat washing your hands as we know the economics of the whole world California as well and so is by July 1st the school needs to create for the 2021 year and we're sort of sharing this year we have quite a few about okay I just to refresh your hair as how your and the truth is that the California Budget that comes out of Sacramento is 90% of our Revenue the state revenue comes from What's called the local control funding formula formula which consists of money from the state local property taxes something called the education protection account those are elements of the local control funding formula and a lottery is also it's the money that we get from the state revenue the mix of the else except which of the property tax money from the state and the education protection account money really does come from property taxes and those checks to come from our local area property taxes then we will get more money from the state an area that has a lot of high property taxes we would get less money from the state the bottom line is the total does not change that's something we need to factor in the number is Wisconsin the state and that's what the budget so here's the proposed budget we were really happy in January categorical program increases with great and now every year the governor give us the new budget in May cuz of May revise that the worst part of the news he is proposing a 10% reduction in the local control funding formula funding from the state 10% of our state revenue is over $500,000 for the whole year he is a very huge number another 10 years ago but they're going to just to us even though the revenue we get will be presumably known in Virginia what would they do if the it's a little Nuance of the state budgeting and in the state legislature about $109,000 from the state push that out to pass in July somehow a miracle happens and that does not show up after this test for the state it's a Nuance of their County in 2021 in June of 2021 we are hearing potentially they will push April May and you know how does he have a 2 school, we have a very great relationship with Heritage partners with a line of credit with Santa managed payments but this is something that we all have to be concerned about and another keeps the Ada calculation and you probably know that the average daily attendance so usually every year I say please please because now I might be saying please please please have your students log on at home on their computers when you're supposed to do this we will be probably having to keep track of a Tanda we don't know how that's going to look we don't know how they calculate it there's some thought they might base it on our student attendance as of February of this year which would be okay but if we added any students they would not count towards more evidence I'm so that's that particular nuances a budget is difficult for some students and they know they will but as always the average daily attendance with a cheetah be important so I heard you all to please you know keep in mind that your students attendance and class however that will look like is really still very important there is a shred of good news and that is that the special ed programs the revenue for special ed Reduce by the cost of living increase which is only about 2.21% so we might not see a big head in special ed program and I really don't even a bigger element of good news is the School charter schools and districts would be able to pay less into the State teachers retirement system we pay currently 17.1% for teachers for their for their retirement which is a great program that those numbers have been going up in past years because we know that the disaster system is underfunded and so we were trying to make that up but the percent of 18.4 can you suggest me and Michael down to 16.0 which is quite a big drop and that would save us quite a bit of money so it's a mix we will not know for sure really healthy what part out the timing is from the budget stand for for the state state of California requires that the legislature approves our budget by June 15th why was created many years ago and somehow that really got them going and they actually do that every year by by June 15th then the number is so they come up with the final version they might change it go to call trailer bill which will provide but it will happen when these are known and you know we've been up the deadline for personal income taxes was pushed out till July 15th so we really won't know the state will not know a lot about the revenue until after he probably the end of July so that would like to see more maybe things will look better we'll see how we may end up revising things but for now our goal is that we need a budget by July 1st the charter school so right now we've we've already started working on this on this on the budget for 2021 right now with the cuts that we're seeing in the NHL see about the California lcff categories here you can see that these this these numbers are the biggest numbers and this is our property taxes of 3.9 we do get a good chance in the lottery actually $400,000 projected which is great special ed revenues come from both the federal government and the state government and a little bit of federal money with Scott and federal money for the lunch program and we don't know too much about those numbers and they're not a huge pieces are of our Revenue puzzle but hopefully will continue to see those number comes through location comes in local Revenue in dollars the bulk of that is actually the donations that have come from you through our foundation so you can see if that's still a critical part of our projected Revenue been looking at the expense but this is Hopewell because this actually assumed that we would give a 2% salary increase for staff on average is what we did last year we haven't had a you know even less than 2% for many years this budget assumes that we still do that it also assumes that we have the the higher rate of decrease most the most pessimistic number in a way which gets us to 6.5 Million number you can see in this blue here almost 85% are salaries and benefits as I'm sure most of you know we run a pretty mean ship here we don't have a lot of admin expense and someone we really look at work and we see our cost-saving this is our biggest chunk of the words that mean well are total revenue is 5.971 million or extensive 6.484 + y La were in the whole $513,000 so that's a problem that we need to mitigate so how on Earth can we do that we have our committee and the board is looking carefully but here's some of the things we're thinking about just to give you a heads up you likely will have no salary increase so that would be 0% the good news is this forecast is not suggest a pay cut and I know many of you have experienced if you didn't experience the layoff we've seen anywhere from 20 25% we are not supposing that this point we might be able to increase students a few that could always bring a little bit more Revenue like $78,000 a year for the year generally for Cutie play tricky because even if we asked you if we don't really know if new shoes be counting Ada so that's an uncertainty we might think about some furlough days which might save us maybe 20 $25,000 Verde its possibility we would have to look closely at our enrichment programs and how that how we can maintain those and how we how we are able to still provide them particularly if we do any distance learning that load areas that we love and edit we cherish them in their part of our curriculum so we be hoping we wouldn't have to catch them but we have to consider those areas and then basically going to the line by line looking everything so here's the Canadian people dedicated group of people that I'm honored to work with this year right now have 15 members of our budget advisory committee we have for teachers we have one two three 56 parents and community members we have on a board member representative Margarita Palazzo Vivian Baker and ISS I read says they're kind of like yours on this committee to stay here forever we will want to try to get as much they called input as we can we know more than we do get a quick that's what the budget process is looking like this year I appreciate it if anyone has hard to go in a lot of details and it's kind of upsetting but feel free to ask questions board meetings and trust us that we are all working very very hard to find macaron to keep providing all the wonderful educational programs that we come to know and love hair charter school thank you very much and now I'm going to turn it back over to page okay I'm going to get my screen up translate okay so here we are on March 13th at the Central and Susan and I went around that Friday afternoon and all the kids ball gown that there that we wouldn't be returning to school the following week when we walked around that day and talked to them I would have never imagined that we would be sitting here and that this would go through in the end of the year we are both very helpful at the time that in a few months there are no 6-8 weeks everybody would be back on campus and play back to normal but that is not the real we are in right now March 16th was already a plan South Development Day so we quickly got the staff together and did some staff development around distance learning and on that day also distributed over 300 Chromebook and on the very next day March 17th distance learning began for csmh students so are kids actually never missed a day of mourning is I think just a man using and a true credit to our staff and teachers and they put in so much hard work to make it all to make it all happen and I really give them so much credit are you going to the end of the school year is approaching quickly our last day of online learning is going to be on June 5th and then on June 8th through the June 10th were actually going to be having the teachers are going to have a Vine app where you can come to school and we're going to have an exchange of goods so we are going to be asking for the Chromebooks back and then I know the kids left not expecting that they would be coming back Arkansas a lot of them have things here and there and their agriculture boots then there are projects and all those things are the teachers are going to be gathering those up and like I said on June 8th to the chance we're going to have some protocols in are we are going to be exchanging exchanging things so I like this year they had to cancel their Washington DC trip which was heartbreaking and usually we have a really special graduation celebration for them at the end of the year or middle school Cheney and some very ministration have been working hard to make sure that they are still celebrated and so we have some special has been for them near the last two days of school on June 9th that will be happening so that we can still celebrate their accomplishments and the years that they spent yet csmh and let them know how important they are to us and send them off the way that they deserve threats to the end of the year million dollar question the only reason I know you guys all tuned in what is going to happen in the fall thinking if I can get a nickel right now for every time someone asked me that question I would solve our budget issues so what is going to happen well I'm going tell you straight up front right now that we don't have the answer yet and we have been following things closely the state while we were in a state webinar the other day with the state superintendent obviously California ZIP State and they're going to be some counties that are ready to have the kids go back to school and others that are not and so we are trying to follow that guidance or to be following the guidance of the Santa Clara Department of Health and we're also looking at what other districts are going to be doing another Charter School District by Kelly unified or San Diego unified are one large district and so they make a decision District in Santa Clara County were unique in that we have a lot of districts within the county and so we are trying to communicate send Morgan Hill superintendent superintendent has been great through the process and has kept me informed of what's going on at the district level and then they reach out myself and other Charter leaders on a continual basis and are talking about what is happening and going forward so we're planning for some different scenarios the first scenario getting returns to normal that we are right back where we were I am going to stop my sharing just for a minute there and I am going to put up our first. I was just sent that out and I'm going to give you guys about 30 seconds to respond to the pool about going back to school for time in the fall visiting Lake Frazee give it about 10 more seconds people are voting why don't you mention that we are monitoring questions and we will have a question and answer. At the after your presentation perfect thank you okay I'm not going to go back to my screen here Russian keep it this way because then I can see everything the other choice we have is distance learning continues and we keep doing what we're doing for a while longer and so that's another option that we have and again I'm going to open up a poll on that one I found the polling on the other one first sorry right to opening up the second Etsy here we go is csmh only offered distance learning in the file I have a couple answers it for you there for those moms and dads have been homeschooling for a while strong opinions is that all is going on hey I'm going to give us about 10 more seconds I have in that pool right and then we have end of this hybrid model people are talking about and I when we come back into the fall and that could look some different ways we could have a hybrid option where it would be half days and we would see half of the students in a listen to come back I'm all together all 650 of them but we would have about 12 kids for classroom and we would have the first group that would come in the morning from 8 to 11 and we would have a second group that would come from 12 to 3 and you can kind of see some of the pros there about that specially managing the lunch and lunch recess is is a pro on this particular one I'm but obviously we the challenges parents in the middle of the day having to pick up their kids and it's a limited amount of time of instruction for them another hybrid options are full days and so for example in this one through a window in the first week on Monday and Tuesday and then on Friday in group b would be our every Wednesday and Thursday and then on the second week would go Wednesday Thursday Friday who pay every Monday Tuesday be every Wednesday and Thursday and the Fridays alternating between the two groups during that time but we could be doing since that group is there all day the group is there could be zooming into the classroom from home and then vice versa and so that would give us some more hours of instruction race you are witches big Pro and are predictable for parents but there is the challenge of managing lunch and recess and social distancing there and of course the idea of social distancing doing it for 3 hours is could possibly happen but trying to do it all day long with kids then reminding them to do social distancing all day long would definitely be a little bit more of a challenge when we are in the meeting the other day with the states in the CDC talked about some social distancing in one of the superintendent's asked if they'd ever taught a group of kindergarteners and how they would recommend social justice scene at the kindergarten level and has ever been in a kindergarten classroom so definitely challenging more with our younger grades than the older grades but and then our third option is Again full days it would be in every other day so Monday Wednesday Tuesday Thursday and then alternating Fridays I am going to start my sharing there and go back to the pool and I'm going to go to I told you here and get some feedback from you as to what would be your preference but half-days the fold is consecutive or the full days every other day all right and I'm going to give us about 10 more seconds and the following on that one back to my easier way to do this but lock my screen so I want to say where we going from here and kind of what is the timeline like I said we're keeping in touch with the state we're trying to and the cow and you know no decision has been made yet no decision has been made as far as will we be back to normal school what we doing one of these Hybrid models will be doing distance learning no decision has been made and as soon as we have some guidance and those decisions is made we will be communicating you throughout the entire summer because we know this has a huge effect on families it will also be going to our board of directors and so I did want to thank my board of directors Pearson car is our chair this year Richard Marsh one of our parents they said it's really a teacher Margarita Blackstone is a Community member Davis a Community member Natalie pasterski Lyle Joey is a parent Joey Trombley is a parent and Mary Alice Callahan is a representative from Morgan Hill Unified God has been our board of directors this year and as we go through this process and the budgeting process obviously we're working with them as well they are eventually the decision-making body for our school and as we go through this we will be sure to communicate with communities and get your input along the way as well I know we did some polling I'm just now and I will share the results of the following after we get a chance to look at it but also know that we'll be sending out a parent survey that is a little bit more in detail and has a few more questions as we move away through this process and we'll get more should be one vote family so if you have two people listening on two different devices to one vote for family for the parent representative to serve on the csmh word enzyme going to launch that bowling so that that can be done alright then I'm going to end up falling in 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 and then look very low when we need to do is we have represented to community Representatives available this year and Jill Davis and Margaritaville Log Show agreed to rerun but we do have to give either a yes or no no to those to make it all official like the ballot when you vote for the judge Collections and then I'll give you one choice all right and I'm going to end can I share it looks like wedding slow down does Susan you have in monitoring the chat room for me and the question and answers on are not going to get too nervous but there's all those questions there but I will let you go ahead and ask me I'm I'll see what I can do okay so first question several years ago field trips were funded through parent contribution is it now a default that all School field trips are funded by the foundation CSM position as it is the largest category for the foundation which one was always Africa the teachers they would have to collect for each single little field trip on it was also a lot of work for office staff then to deposit for all those field trip and then I can't tell you how many times to you know a year-and-a-half later we teachers would find a lost check in their desk that never even made it to us for those field trip say they were in an accountant like married they have so much to manage but also you know that it really came down and as far as like school supplies and equipment for the school and field trips in all about that is part of the learning environment as part of the learning environment it actually is free for everyone so we have to provide all those things for free and are actually not allowed to money like that for those things that we have turned to the foundation and her parents to say you know we know this is something you used to support could you support it through our foundation but it is for every so those field trips are for everyone is part of the learning environment and it has to be offered to everyone so it was a way that we are able to do that through the foundation hope that makes sense okay next question children go back to school what safety precautions will be taken the great question and it's something I think Susan and I have both been working on it when we come back to school there obviously three precautions put into place on a lot of that is going to come from the Santa Clara County of Public House and they are Guidance with us and I will be sure to publish all those expectations prior to school starting and during the summer as we develop those more specifically as people know things are changing so not knowing exactly what it's going to look like find the middle of August if I let you know I'm guessing that we can have we can expect some things like social distancing them where they have to line up and so forth those things into place that we're seeing happening in other places and at other businesses as they open up next question have you considered using seesaw as a platform for lower grades it is more easily accessible and user-friendly compared to Google classroom for lower grades I have not so great suggestion people looking to see some put that down on her and we do want your suggestions absolutely okay next question does the hybrid option include distance learning as well or solely in class instruction it would be a combination of both so they would be if their morning group was there they do some distance learning activities they didn't afternoon and vice versa if we did the everyday or every other as well so yeah it would be both in person and distance learning at home it would be a combination of the two is there a families that want to continue distance learning 100 would that be an option to opt into if a hybrid model were to be adopted we don't have the answer to that question yet we are waiting to get some guidance from the state on that big part of that is the financial question and I know districts are asking that same exact question if a parent chooses not to come back can there be some kind of distance learning or support of the school kind of learning school still gets account that student in their enrollment and is part of the school and looked into and being asked the others that we have to consider on that is where charter school and as a charter school there are Charters out there that are distant learning Charters and that's what their whole Charter has been written as distance learning Charter Charter hasn't been written that we've been written as a project-based learning Charter well are charter school advocates in Sacramento while all this is going on have gotten an executive order or whenever brats Ride Along whatever it is just say that during this time is supposed that charges we have flexibility so we can be do distance learning how long will be able to continue to do that, we still need to understand and find out in people I definitely advocating for that at the state level to say that we need to continue to have that flexibility okay next question have you considered a weekly rotation as a hybrid model we could put that on as another possibility absolutely there are lots of different weight we actually had probably about another I'm on there and Susan and I did and actually took a few off just to simplify it but that would that one is different than the other two so we will look at that one as another option week on week off next question thank you for all the information have an incoming kindergartener and have submitted paperwork that was requested how will I know if it was received will it be getting an email we will make sure we email you if we did not receive it and if you have any question the best thing to do would be to email Nancy and just confirm with her that she received the paperwork that would be this one's kind of a little bit similar to the one you already answered. But when considering the hybrid have we considered one where some children do Justin learning full-time and others attend in person if a learning model is used to could you try to ensure that all students are in the sea to make it easier for parents absolutely a lot of school is being lost a lot of school that is being lost is the social aspect and I'm sure that with a Hybrid models I mean definitely we are when we look at the who's coming out bad I think just like we do with class last week very carefully take into consideration the groups of kids and making sure people have a friend there route for things like that just like we do when we make us less so writing it up into three classes we're going to be dividing them possibly in just six classes will there be a summer Jumpstart program to help our kids get ready for next year as of right now I would have to say the answer to that is no I don't think we're going to be ready to do the Jump Start program in less things change so a lot of comments page just on you know what if none of the hybrid hybrid options work for me or someone commenting as a parent with multiple age children it was difficult to vote which days are ours would work best would the confisco consider doing different things for younger children versus older children and I think obvious all this is extra consideration which is why we want to do a more thorough pulling very soon do you expect to change the date of the first day of we have talked about it I think I think we would have to know that things would be changing quite a bit if we get back a couple weeks but if it would make a big difference by pushing it back a couple weeks then probably not but if all the sudden they're like us if you go to more weeks you know something else is going to then we would consider a question about may have missed the when are we returning Chromebooks for the summer and some of Morgan Hill unified so that they allowing families to continue wasn't sure if we're going to do that as well so we will be returning home from books one of those days Susan 7th 8th and 9th at least nine 8/9 and 10 others will be the day that we return in a crown box we would like to get them back and at least be able to check on them and we may consider in Case by case basis reissuing them for the summer for people who really would need them at home to continue some learning x-rays during the summer but our preference would be to have as many back here on campus as we could to refresh the summer and get them ready for the fall lots of questions and comments about people with multiple age students and again we would make every attempt to put everybody on the same schedule to make it as simple for the families as possible once a vaccine for covid-19 becomes available will it be mandatory for all students in order to return to the physical in the interests of everyone's house that would be a state decision right now they make the decision as to what vaccines are mandated vaccines versus what vaccines are recommended vaccines so that would be a total of State decision and we would have to follow the guidelines of the state they would both the fold a model and 1/2 to Hybrid models include recess this is one of the most important skills my kids are missing out on right now so I think that has stayed models would include some kind of short break and then the whole day miles would have to include additional brakes depend on what but they're going to need to break in both of those from watching the kids adapt to distance learning it seems that it requires a very different mode for kids to read Zorb the videos on the cell study versus in a classroom where there is Hands-On and high engagement are we taking steps to learn how to teach differently or flip the classroom for optimal distance learning going for definitely we been talking about nobody expected this to happen I'm like a dead and we overnight became distance learning teachers I think all of our teachers would be the first to say they have learned a lot in the last I mean / 10 / 10 in the last 10 weeks but they have learned quite a bit and there are definitely things that I think they would do differently as far as teaching and there was a lot of great things going on out there distance learning there would be s'more staff development on that area there be sharing a practices how to incorporate our project-based learning philosophy more into distance learning would be an absolute priority and so as week give me a ring if we would continue that way I would definitely think that that learning is going to improve and that she more questions because I know we're over a time limit here and again even though you're not trying to pull Jada right now we will be sending out surveys ensuring that very soon to the last question assuming a hybrid model is chosen and the vaccine isn't it available by state Thanksgiving would you consider going distance learning or earlier for an earlier break around the flu season great suggestion would definitely need to consider that and think about that and and see definitely something we wait we could look at
