David
Cross is beginning
his ninth year of teaching at CSMH. Mr. Cross teaches 7th
and 8th grade History classes, as well as a technology exploratory
class. After a busy summer, he is excited about the new
school year and looks forward to the challenges of the year
as well as reconnecting with the students. In May, 2008,
Mr. Cross earned a Masters Degree in Instructional Technology
at San Jose State University
and was named the IT Graduate Student of the Year. He has
also earned a Masters Degree in History at the University
of San Diego and a Bachelors Degree in Accounting at the
University of Santa Clara.
During recent
summers Mr. Cross has participated in the IISME
program while working at local high tech companies. This
includes positions at IBM's Almaden Research Center,
National Semiconductor
and Lockheed-Martin. IISME provides teachers
with experiences and tools they need to adapt their practices
and change their schools so that all students are prepared
to be lifelong learners, responsible citizens, and productive
employees. Along with that, Mr. Cross has also participated
in experiences that deepen his knowledge in history and
technology, including a week in Philadelphia and two summers
at the Krause Center for Innovation.
Under Dave's
leadership, past history classes have won a California
Multimedia Award for their Multi-Grade/School Collaboration
projects, "Coyote Valley Then and Now" and "The
Crusades and the War in Iraq." Other Multimedia projects
created by Seventh and Eighth graders included the Lewis
and Clark Project, Reform Movement of the 18th Century and
Medieval Lifestyles. During the past five school years,
he has taken a group of students to Washington
DC and will be repeating that trip this year as well.
